DOT Physicals

DOT physicals are done in accordance with FMCSA guidelines. Some people are unaware that a DOT physical is one of our chiropractic services.

Certified Medical Examiner

The FMCSA requires that providers delivering a DOT physical be a certified medical examiner. This type of certification ensures that the doctor performing the physical is aware of FMSCA guidelines. Both of our doctors on staff perform these physicals, which include everything needed for certification or re-certification for your DOT physical card. With the ability to do labs in-office, all additional testing you may need will be done the same day. Typical time for a thorough exam is 30-45 minutes.

Why DOT Physicals are Important

Not only does do DOT physicals check your general health, they ensure that you are healthy enough to protect the safety of other motorists. As a commercial truck driver you have an additional responsibility to the public to make sure devastating collisions don’t happen by first managing things that are in your control, such as your health.

Services Included in DOT Physical

  • Health history intake (including medications, surgeries, and any current health conditions)
  • Vision screen (making sure to have visual acuity better than or equal to 20/40 and recognize the colors of traffic signals)
    • The use of corrective lenses does not fail you. You are able to use these lenses during examination. If you have them, bring them. And remember to keep a pair of glasses in the truck at all times.
  • Urine screen (not a drug test; this test is done to check for blood, glucose, protein, and specific gravity)
  • Blood pressure screening (tying to keep your blood pressure below 140/90 mmHg insures safety and longevity of your physical certificate)
    • Re-checking blood pressure throughout the physical may be permitted in some cases.
  • Hearing screen (done by forced whisper test; must hear from no less that 5 feet away)
    • Make sure to wear your hearing aids if you have them. Always keeping extra batteries in the truck at all times.
  • Visual fields (making sure peripheral vision is at least 70 degrees)
  • Physical (full system scan checking heart, lungs, skin, oral, musculoskeletal, neurological, and others)
  • If all requirements are met you will be walking out with a certification the same day. (We provide a physical certification compliant with FMCSA and even have it laminated for you.)
